Would it be a good idea for an American company to market their cell phone in Japan?

Hikari,
If that American company has to rely on internet forums to make major business decisions, then it is probably not a good idea. But, assuming that the phone works with Japanese carriers and has full Japanese language support, then there could be sales opportunities. I believe that the only American phone currently sold in Japan is the iPhone, marketed through Softbank.

This isn't for a real company, it is for a school project. We have to market a cell phone in a country of our choice and I chose Japan. But thank you for your reply Dave.

I don't think it would work so well. The phone needs to be 3G, not GSM or CDMA.
The phones need to be appealing to Japanese people, and as otherwise mentioned, have Japanese language, and all of the features that people would want here.
....even something silly like a phone toy loop!!!!
