Travelling around Japan 2008/9/26 03:07
Dear Sir/Madam,

We are soon going on holiday to Japan.

We are planning the following itinerary:

- Arrive in Tokyo airport on the 26th October

- Take train from Tokyo airport to Tokyo city on the 26th October.

- Take train from Tokyo to Kyoto on the 29th October

- Day trip Kyoto to Osaka by train on the 2nd November. Returning to Kyoto in the evening by train

- Day trip Kyoto to Hiroshima by train on the 4th November. Returning to Kyoto in the evening by train

- Day trip Kyoto to Mount Fuji by train on the 6th November. Returning to Kyoto in the evening

- Kyoto to Tokyo on the 9th November by train

- Tokyo to Tokyo airport by train on the 9th November.

I would be very grateful if you could advise us on which one is the rail pass more suitable to our needs considering the above itinerary.

I like to thank you in advance for your help in this matter.

Regards
Mariano

Mt Fuji is near Tokyo 2008/9/26 06:39
Mt Fuji is much closer to Tokyo than it is to Kyoto, so it is kind of odd to take a day trip there from Kyoto, especially if you plan to return to Tokyo. Mt. Fuji is only about 100km from Tokyo, but around 400km away from Kyoto.

I recommend either making it a day trip from Tokyo or stopping at Mt. Fuji on your way back from Kyoto, as the mountain is to the southeast of Tokyo.

Hmmm 2008/9/26 16:24
15 day itinerary on a 14 day pass......hmmm
14 day pass 45,100Y
Airport to town 2940Y with JR on the NEX. Less on a local train but not recommended unless you are on a tight budget. A good deal less with Keisei but it depends on your destination in Tokyo.
Tokyo to Kyoto 13,220Y each way
Kyoto to Osaka 540Y each way
Kyoto to Hiroshima 10,790 each way
To this point it is already more than a 14 day pass so get the 14 day pass and figure out which company to use either in to or out of Tokyo to/from the airport.
You could always spend a night at an airport hotel but depending on where you stay that might cost more. Of course if you are arriving early then that wouldn't be a consideration. Tell us where you plan to stay and your arrival time at Narita and we can tell you what company and train to use.
