8 Days in Japan - Which Train Pass?

Hello,

i will be travelling through Japan beginning this Friday for 8 days. Will arrive in Tokyo Airport on Saturday(4th October) morning, stay in Tokyo for 3 nights, with daytrip to Nikko and (maybe) Kamakura, then heading to Kyoto for 2 or 3 nights and coming back to Tokyo to fly off on Sunday (12th October) night.

Now my question is, what is the best Train Pass i should get? I will obviously travell quite a bit and thought there might be better options then buying a ticket for each way, eg the JR Rail Ticket, im just not too sure and would be most thankful for any advice!

A 7-day Japan Rail Pass would come cheaper than regular train tickets. But if you travel by night bus between Tokyo and Kyoto, that would come even cheaper.
