tte shitteta is one of the ways to say 'did you know...?'
The more former equivalent is 'to shitte ita'

"...tte shitteta?" is very casual speech "...tte shitte ita?" or "...to shitte ita?" would be textbook casual speech [here you see the "shitte (te-form of "shiru") + ita (ta-form for iru)]
"...to shitte imashita ka" would be the polite speech.
For very respecful expression (for your teacher or for your boss, etc.), a completely different verb for "to know" is used: "...to gozonji deshita ka."
