What to pack?

I will be traveling Tohokuand Western Hokkaido areas for 3 weeks this coming Nov. I prefer to travel only with one compact size of carry-on luggage. Can anyone kind enough to give me some suggestions of what to pack? I am not quite sure about the weather at this time. How cold will it get? Thanks

The temperature starts to fall below freezing during the nights in November and even during the day in late November. Unless you go into higher elevations, that's the coldest you should be prepared for. On the other extreme, you can still expect temperatures of 20 degrees in places like Sendai in early November.
