Self-drive in Hokkaido winter- safe ? 2008/10/13 11:19
I have mixed information. Some tells me that Self-drive in Hokkaido during winter is fine, especially for the period that I intend to travel (i.e. End Nov to Early Dec) except in the mountains. Others told me that it is not safe because it will be snowing everywhere and there isn't snow-movers truckers clearing up the roads and many roads may be closed. I am quite confused. Could anyone, pls advise. Thanks.

There very possibly could be snow and ice on the road. If you're not used to driving on snow, it would be dangerous IMO.

Depends what you are used to 2008/10/14 10:53
I agree with the above- are you used to driving in snowy/ icy conditions? If not, then it would seem like a bad idea. In the cities roads will be kept quite snow free, but the same can't be said for rural roads, and ice is always a possibility.
