Can I bring a hiking stick back home? 2008/10/14 16:53
Okay. so I bought a hiking stick when climbing Fuji-san in August, and it's time for me to go back home (the US). I wonder if there is a restriction to bring any wooden made products back in the states. (my friend warned me so...)

Any advice/suggestions?

Should be okay 2008/10/14 19:46
As long as the wood is free of any pest and not fresh cut wood, it should be okay. U.S. Fed Ag is looking or anything that may still carry live pest(termites, ants, or some type of plant disease). If your hiking stick is well made with an nice finish of some type, then it should be free of any pest. Also make sure there is no large amounts of soil or mud on it as soil can carry many pest in it. Check your hiking shoes too. If you plan to carry it onboard your flight, airport security may not let it on a flight as it could be considered a weapon.
