We will start in tokyo then go to mount fuji then on to osak for a day then to kyoto for two days before returning to tokyo. what rail passes do i need

A 7-day Japan Rail Pass will cost about the same as regular train tickets for the round trip Tokyo - Osaka - Tokyo. That's the pass I would be using if I were in your position.

to purchase the pass before reaching japan because they only sell outside japan.
