transport from Hakone to Fuji Q highland 2008/11/21 14:02
I am taking a group to Japan in April, using a Hakone 3 day pass and staying at Sengoku, near Hakone. We want to spend a day at Fuji Q Highland. How do we get there & back from our Youth Hostel in Sengoku? What is the cost & time?
This website mentioned something about a free bus from Gotemba? Is this correct?

it takes around 2.5 hrs by bus 2008/11/26 21:36
Hi Dabba,

We were unware how fare Hakone was from Fuji-q.

As we stayed over night at Hakone from our Mt Fuji tour. We had the next day free to head off to Fuji-q highland theme park.

We stayed at the Hakone Prince Hotel which was conviently next to the Hakone-En bus station (outside the lake Ashi ferry port). So hopefully your youth hostel is somewhere close by From there we took the bus to Gotemba station (there are signs in English/Japanese) at the bus stop telling which stops it is making.

The change bus at Gotemba station, take the Mt Fuji Exit. At the bus station, go to the bus ticket counter and purchase a Fuji-q theme park package for 5000 yen, which includes the bus fare and entrance fees to Fuji-q theme park. The entrance to the theme park alone is 4800 yen/adult. I am not sure about the FREE bus ride to the theme park (wished we knew before we went). But found the package worth while.

On the bus the announcements are in Japanese..so just kindly ask the bus driver (show them the theme park phamplet if you have one) and they'll let you know when to get off.

Just a heads up, the earliest bus that leaves Hakone to Gotemba is at 9:35am...and it takes 2.5hrs to get there...and the park opens at 9am. By the time we got there it was a long wait for most of the rides. We didn't even get a chance to ride the fujiyama rollercoaster...the wait for that was over 2 hrs....

We had to head back to Tokyo that night....

On-hindsight it would have been easier to get to fuji-q from Tokyo...via the train in Shinjuku station.

Hope you have a great time when you get here.

Cheers

Sengoku is closer to Gotemba than the Prince Hotel. The travel time should be around 2 hours:

1) Take the Odakyu Hakone Highway Bus (bound for Shinjuku) from Sengoku to Gotemba Station (30 minutes, 690 yen, 2 buses per hour)

2) Take the Fujikyu bus (bound for Kawaguchiko Station) from Gotemba Station to Fuji Q Highland (1 hour, 1440 yen, 1-2 buses per hour)
