Heian shrine 2008/12/5 18:57
Are there weddings at the Heian Shrine in Kyoto, on Sundays, as there are at Meiji Shrine in Tokyo? We were lucky enough to witness a number of weddings on a Sunday at Meiji Shrine, but visited Heian Shrine on a weekday.

The most popular days for weddings are obviously Saturdays and Sundays. Furthermore, most people want their weeding s to be held on taian, which is one of six "Buddhist weekdays", which are explained in a little bit more details here:

In other words, there will be particularly many weddings when taian falls on a Saturday or Sunday.

Thanks, again, Uji: we will definitely try to be at Heian on the Sunday we have available: can't manage a Saturday: your advice, as always, is much appreciated

Make sure that the Sunday of your visit does not fall on a butsumetsu, because that day is considered bad for having wedding ceremonies, and many people avoid it:

But even if you go on a taian Sunday, you are not guaranteed to see weddings.

great link 2008/12/6 20:20
Thanks Uji: this is a great link; we may be in luck again in Tokyo (5th April) less so in Kyoto(12th April) but both shrines are well worth the revisit, weddings or not. Thanks again for your interest and assistance: your contributions to our planning are invaluable.
