Buddhist traditions?

I am really hoping someone can answer my question. When staying at Sekishoin in Koyasan recently, the monk gave us two knotted bracelets, one during dinner and one when we left. They are brightly coloured, made of a type of nylon plaited string with three knots in them. Do they have any meaning, and why did he give them to us??

With some google-work, I found out Sekisyoin is giving the guests charm bracelets as souvenir. It is charm to repell bad luck, so wear it if you like it.
And in case you don't like it so much and want to dispose it, it is recommended that you return it to any buddhist temple, but this is a custom of our culture so don't get worried too much.
