we want to visit my husband in japan, how long does it take to apply for even a visitor visa? i dont know what to do?where do i start? we want to spend a little time with him.

visit you nearest embassy for the list of requirements needed. If your husband is in Japan working you need to get some documents from him too and to know that you have to consult the Japanese Embassy.

Depending on what country you're from you might not need to apply for a visa just for a temporary tourist visa for less than 90 days. For example, Australians don't need to apply for a visa. You'll need to check your government's department of foreign affairs / immigration website for more details.
