How to get to Shingo in Aomori? 2008/12/18 11:08
What's the easiest way to go to Shingo in Aomori using the Japan Rail Pass? Thanks.

You can go to Shingo Village only on weekdays if you stay there in the daytime.

Take the Tohoku Shinkansen from Tokyo to Hachinohe. From there take buses. It costs 1,520 yen in total each way.

Hachinohe Station 10:44 - 11:20 Gonohe Station 11:40 - 12:07 Kanegasawa (Shingo)

Kanegasawa 17:59 - 18:26 Gonohe Station 18:30 - 19:06 Hachinohe Station

Seems it's an isolated place as far as public transport is concerned.

Thank you, Optimisk, for your helpful information. Have you ever heard about the claim that there's a tomb of Jesus there in the village and that Jesus fled his crucificion by way of Alaska and Siberia and eventually settled in Shingo and married a Japanese wife and had lots of descendents who still live in the village these days? Of course, the claim sounds ridiculous, and I'm sure no one believes it. Nonetheless, I think it would be interesting just to visit the village and look at the alleged tomb of Jesus. Do you think it's worth making the effort to travel there just for this?
