Recommendation for tokyo snow trip

I have 1 free day on 1 Jan, thinking to go for a onsen and snow trip from Tokyo:
1. Which place are you recommend (I have iqHI am thinking of Yuzawa.
QDI am not wearing a boots, is there any problem to tour around at Yuzawa? Can I rent for a set of winter clothes at the Echigo Yuzawa station?
RDwhat else i can do in Yuzawa other than ski?

My advice is to stick to the onsen since Yuzawa in winter is just for skiing/snowboarding. However, as of today, there's not enough snow to open the slopes. Hopefully, it'll start snowing from this weekend. If you go skiing, you can rent skiwear but you might need to bring you own ski mask and gloves.
