Cheapest accomodation-Hokkaido&elsewhere 2008/12/28 09:45
Hi, my girlfriend and I are currently backpacking Japan for two months and with the Australian dollar drop are finding it pretty expensive! Outside of Osaka, Kyoto and Tokyo were struggling to find affordable accomodation (under 3000yen each). Can anyone offer advice on the cheapest accomodation options in some of the following places?
Hiroshima
Fukuoka
Kagoshima
Sapporo
Somewhere near Akan National Park in Hokkaido?

Also if anyone knows what the cheapest temple lodging at Koya San might be?

Would hugely appreciate the help!

Try the Toyoko-inn chain. You can a get double rooms for about 6000-7000yen/nite incl breakie (sometimes a little more depending on the location). The rooms are wetern style, small but clean and you have ur own bathroom if that is a bonus. They are always very convienently located with-in walking distance of a train station. I do remember there being some sort of youth hostel or something like that at Dazaifu (a short train ride to hakata-eki - maybe not even half an hour) down in kyushu and its a really ancient town with anbsoulutely fabulous temple. I cant remember what it was called but I remember lots of backpackers use to stay out that way. I hear you about the drop in the aussie dollar - ouch its making our holiday very expensive as well.
