Japan Rail Pass Cheaper to Fuji

I'm landing at Narita next week and will be going to Shinjuku for the night before off to Mt. Fuji, and then back to Tokyo and airport. Would it be cheaper for me to purchase the Japan Rail Pass then buy tickets separately, and does the rail pass work for these locations?

The Japan Rail Pass does not pay off for such short trips. Details on alternatives depend on where around the mountain you intend to go. Hakone? Fuji Five Lakes? Summit?
