max cash without having to declare? 2009/1/10 00:18
I was wondering what the maximum amount of money i can bring into Japan without declaring it is.

I have some money that i wont have the time to put into my card and would like to take with me. I just want to make sure that i dont have to declare that.

Please let me know as im travelling tomorrow..

The maximum is one million yen, which is about 9000 USD:

Actually at current exchange rates, 1 million yen is close to $11,000 USD- remember that 100 yen is now worth more than $1 USD.

To each is own but I have gone on vacation in many countries, including Japan, with credit cards and a debit cards and a bare minimum of cash and never had a problem (even on January 1, 2000 --remember the Y2K fears?) .
