7 days too rush? 2009/1/17 18:49
Hi again,
Finally, I have plan a round trip from Tokyo-Nagoya-Takayama(Shirakawago)-Toyama-Nagano-Tokyo in 7 days. Is it too rush and with JR pass. What is the best recomemdation.
Thanks

If you like a fast travel pace, it is doable, assuming that you refer to the cities of Toyama and Nagano (as opposed to the prefectures - in the latter case you would have to give more details on where exactly you intend to go):

A suggestion:

day 1: Tokyo to Nagoya

There is not that much to see in Nagoya, so I think one day is enough:

day 2: Nagoya - Takayama

About Takayama:

day 3: Takayama with side trip to Shirakawago:

day 4: Takayama - Toyama

There is not much to see in Toyama City

If you travel outside of winter and do not mind to pay an additional 10,000 yen per person on transportation, I recommend to travel via the Kurobe-Tateyama Alpen Route to Nagano on day 5:

Otherwise, take trains via Naoetsu.

day 6: Nagano City:

day 7: Nagano - Tokyo

I assume you have allocated time for Tokyo on separate days.

One other posibility COULD be:
Given nagoya and toyama are maybe not overly necessary to stay in,and IF Alpine route is too expensive for you then why not Tokyo-Takayama for a few nights, Shirokawa-go as a day trip, Kanazawa as a day trip via Toyama, then bus from Takayama to Matsumoto, and on to Nagano that way? Just an idea.....

7 days too much ? 2009/1/18 18:40
Hi all,
Thank you very much for the pointers. Travel to Japan end of this month, should be winter. Never been to this places before. Is it easy to get a night stay in Shirakawago.
Thanks again.

Direct reservations by phone might pose a problem due to the language barrier. The following service can reserve for you:

Hi,
Thanks Uji for the info, very useful. Already send booking. May not stay at Tokyo, been there many times. Thinking stay longer at Nagano City, any Toyoko Inn or similiar budget hotel to recomemd.
Thanks again
