New Friends/Giving tokens 2009/1/23 00:53
I have a Japanese friend who will introduce me to some of her friends when I visit Japan. I'm thinking of giving them all small Vancouver Olympic 2010 lanyard souvenirs. Lanyards are those things that you can attach your keys, digicam, work id card and other things to it. I understand gift giving is very personal in Japan. Is what I'm doing too personal, too cheap?
I just want to make a nice Canadian impression on them.

ChatMax,

That sounds just right to me. They only have to be small/cheap goodies, as giving anything more expensive could inconvenience the recipient by making them feel that they have to buy you something in return.

i concur.
things from ur home country are perfect. then again, the younger generation are not so caught up with all the older traditions, so you could get away with not giving anything fancy.
