Glossary for 2009/1/23 17:08
Hi all, I am looking for a glossary of the terms of the parts that made up the tool set of the Samurai archer.

I do not practice Kyudo (I am actually a karateka. My question relates actually to the tools and parts that the olden samurai used, i.e. the feathers used for the arrows, the little bucket attachment for the arrows to sit in when being carried and this sort of thing. I have a kogai from the late Muromachi period with these items on it and I am looking for the correct names and kanji.

Any help appreciated.

Cheers

"the feathers used for the arrows"
Generally it would be called Yabane 矢羽 (arrow-feather) やばね.

"the little bucket attachment for the arrows to sit in when being carried and this sort of thing"
Do you mean quiver with this?
Then it would be called Yazutsu 矢筒 (arrow-tube) やづつ.

That is exceelent information, yes, a quiver of course. There are other items, one that looks like a head band ? Here is a link to the kogai and it's design, 矢道具図 Yadougu Zu.
