Just wondering if it is a good time to visit Hokkaido in early Mar? Is there much to do during winter beside skiing?

Yes. Mainly for winter sports.
Is there much to do during winter beside skiing?
City sightseeing, hot springs are some of the possibilities. Due to the snow, outdoor activities are pretty much restricted to winter sports, though.

Yes, even more so. Mid February is mid winter.

Depends on what you are interested in. For skiing, drift ice and winter sceneries, go to Hokkaido. If you don't want to see snow, Kyushu is the better choice.
do i get to enjoy snow in kyushu as well?
Yes, it is not unusual for the higher elevations of Kyushu and the northern part of the island to see some snow.
