What areas are known for what? 2009/2/7 04:12
I've heard that some areas are known for their specialties, like rice, beef, ramen, etc. Is there someplace that lists the specialties of Japanese cities or areas?

Ramen is all over. But in Fukuoka they are famous for it. OSaka and Hiroshima has their own version of Okonomiyaki. The Hiroshima one is more complex and they cook for you. The Osaka one you can do it yourself. Osaka is also famous for takoyaki as the previous poster said. In Tokyo you can also have something like Osaka style okonomiyaki, but it is wetter - called Monjayaki. You can have monja and okonomiyaki in the same restaurant in Tokyo. Give it a try!

Thanks. Is there a list, though? 2009/2/8 07:35
Does anyone know if there is a list out there in a book or cyber world that tells what areas in Japan are known for what?
Thanks.

This is another interesting website showing regional differences for some dishes:

Ramen map found! 2009/2/10 23:11
I found an article about ramen and the map explaining regional differences in taste. I like in New York and there are couple of good ramen restaurants and found that Kambi ramen house (a sister restaurant of Minca) carries their original menus inspired by different regions. If you are in NY area, check it out!
