Okinawa Restaurant Recommendations 2009/2/10 06:08
My friends are flying down to Okinawa this weekend from Tokyo. They've already purchased guide books, maps for attractions.

One thing they're really hoping for is to find some good old (typically unhealthy) American-type cuisine that's sometimes difficult to find up in Japan. For example: delicious Mexican (a Tex-Mex type), a good old hamburger joint, southern-style food (fried chicken, BBQ, etc) or a traditional deli.

I've looked up sites so far such as Tabelog but I was wondering if any of you kind folks have any personal recommendations for restaurants? I was just guessing that with the large American presence in Okinawa, there would be more American-style restaurants around the prefecture.

Thanks!

Military? 2009/2/10 23:54
Are you or your friends in the US military? If so, there are plenty of places on the bases, such as Chili's, etc.

Off base, there is a place called Smitty's over near Koza Music Town in Okinawa City (near Kadena Gate 2). We ate at a Mexican restaurant called Odabai's(?) or something like that off 58 near Kadena. American Village has several American restaurants including a Tony Roma's.

You may also want to look at this website:

Here's another website with restaurants listed:

To find where these are located, enter the address at this website:

Personally, my favorites are Coco's Ichiban Curry House on the highway on the east side of Kadena and a Korean BBQ on the same road (easy to find as the building appears to be made of neon lights).

Good luck.
