We planning a trip to Japan and would like to do a day/half-day experiencing Ikenobo flower arranging. Does anyone know of a place that will do this? We will be in Tokyo, Hakone, Kyoto. Osaka and potentially Hiroshima.
Thanks! Look forward to hearing form you!

there are lots of exhibits around town of Ikebana flower arrangements. Sometimes you see them at dept stores, hotels, or hotel lobbies.

Ikebana is a art that takes a lifetime. My sister who works in Japan is taking it and it's her 14th year. YOu may be able to get an introductory course in some tours but I do not know any traditional school that shows Ikebana art in a half a day session. Also culture tour buses like Sunshine Bus and Hato-bus conducted in English will take you to Ikebana center for a 10 minute introduction. In one of the TV Travel Channel show In USA featuring Alan Bourdain's No Reservation, he visited a famous flower arrangement shool in Kyoto and got an in-depth instruction. But he's a celebrity after all and it's Travel Channel. Some Ikebana schools in UK may have their headquarters in Japan and you can ask them for referral. Chad

Do you speak Japanese, Tasha? That would have a pretty big influence on whether this will be possible or not as most of the instructors are unlikely to speak more than a few words of English.
