I am going to Matsue. I am not sure if I should go to Izumo also. I know the major site there is the Grand Shine. Is there anything to see or eat (izumo soba) close to the station itself?

The shrine is all there is to see. It is one of Japan's most important. However, if you are not particularly interested in shinto shrines and history, you might think of it as just another shrine.
Therefore, if you are interested in shrines, I strongly recommend to make the side trip. Otherwise, you can skip it.
