Cherry Blossom at Shinjuku Gyoen 2009/4/17 10:13
Hi,

I'm travelling to Tokyo next week. Knows that there's some late breeds of cherry in Shinjuku Gyoen. Will I still be able to see some there?

Jeslyn,

The cherry blossom season is now well and truly over in the Tokyo area. While you may be able to see a few late-blooming varieties of cherry blossom in Shinjuku Gyoen and elsewhere, they are just "pretty" as opposed to the breath-taking sight of masses of somei-yoshino trees seen during late March and early April.

Yes, many of the late late-blooming varieties, especially Kanzan, Fugenzo and Shogetsu trees, are now in bloom at Shinjuku Gyoen:
