Are you required to have a child car seat installed in your vehicle in Japan? And if so, can you rent them at most car rental places?

If I borrow a car from my cousin, I will just need to rent a car seat. Do you know of anywhere that rents just the car seat alone?

Thanks in advance.

Hello! You can rent a child seat as option(around 500yen/day) at rent a car company.
You can rent it without child seat basically.

i`m not sure of the law, but it is very common to not use child seats or even seat belts.

Childseat rentals are available at numerous places. Can your cousin read Japanese?

Ever since the law changed nearly ten years ago, the use of childseats have become a must. Most parents today seem to be obeying this law quite strictly, as opposed to parents a decade ago where kids jumping in the car was quite common.
