I'm interested in visiting Askua (near Nara) but can't seem to find much info on it. Has anyone been there? Is it recommended? Can you give me some advice on things to see, how to get around etc? I'm interested in seeing the tombs at the moment.

It is the cradle on the Japanese nation with a lot of attractions that are very interesting to people who are interested in the early history of Japan (such as foundations of former buildings, cave paintings, graves and special stones), but only mildly interesting to the average foreign traveler. The area also offers a calm, pleasant countryside atmosphere that might appeal to some travelers.

But it is not a must-see destination for the average traveler.
