How do I contact my son in Japan?

my son is travelling in japan for 2 weeks . he has global roaming from telstra in australia. We have tried 0011813 mobile no (ten digits) starting with zero with no success. any suggestions

If your son has the mobile he uses in Australia with roaming service, you should call his number as usual.
01181+number w/o 0 is only when he's using a phone he bought/rent in Japan.
