Personal Trainer 2009/4/25 00:00
Hello!

If asked about my occupation (shigoto), how do I explain that I am a personal trainer?

I want to be able to say something like this:

"I work as a Personal Trainer. I help people with exercise and healthy eating."

It doesn't have to be exactly those phrases... I just want to be able to tell people what I do for a living. I would be very grateful if someone could help me with that.

Thank you very much!

"Paasonaru toreenaa" would probably be most appropriate.

At the gym I go to in Tokyo, personal trainer is as Uco san said- the English words with katakana pronunciation. I would imagine that all but the very old and very young would have a fair idea what a personal trainer does.

Just to add... 2009/4/25 18:00
If you want to add a bit of explanation for those who may not be familiar with the concept of "personal trainer," then you could say:

- Fittonesu sentaa de paasonaru toreenaa wo shite imasu. (I'm working as a personal trainer at a fitness center.)
- Supootsu jimu de.... (... at a sports gym).
