Buying and using Kansai Thru Pass?

Is it possible to buy a 2/3 day kansai pass but not use it right away? We will be arriving in kansai late in the evening, and we want to be able to use a Kansai Pass the next morning. Could we buy it but not start using it until the next day? Or must it be used on the day that you buy it?
