Nice 1-day drives from Kyoto

Would like to do a 1-day drive from Kyoto to take in some beautiful natural scenery. Can anyone recommend any routes? Two key factors are beautiful natural scenery/views and a minimum amount of concrete buildings!! A route with a nice rotemburo onsen with great views would be a definate plus!

Takao, Kurama and Ohara are thre areas in northern Kyoto, which are still within the city limits, but are very rural. Kurama has a nice rotemburo.
I have also heard good things about Miyama, a little bit further away, but have not personally been there yet.
