Hey I'm moving to Tsukuba next month, and I'm going to meet my girlfriends mother for the 1st time. My girlfriend and I have been going out for just under a year now, (she lived in Ireland for 2 years and thats where I met her, she just went back home last month) But just wondering what kind of gift i should give? in terms of size or value would also be of help?
Thank you.

Sandan,
Well, it is really up to you and what you wish to spend.
As previously mentioned, sweets are always good. Local treats are a good bet.
It's a gift for mom so perhaps a nice shawl.
Go for something homey... How about a wool throw blanket for winter use?
Simply put the Japanese are gracious in giving and accepting gifts so whatever you bring will be appreciated.
