Hey Everyone!
I'm going to Kyoto pretty soon and I was wondering if there are any gym nearby that you can work-out in without having to sign up for a membership?. Also I got a lot of tattoos on my arms, will that be a problem when entering a gym?.
All the best.

tatoos may be a problem. Most of us here are tourists who don't have time to work out while travelling but I noticed gyms--not in Kyoto-- and they were quite expensive. At least compared to Canada, where, at least in my big hometown very few gyms have a drop in service for a few sessions or even a month..The only ones are the YMCA and gyms in community centres and you may try theses places in Japan perhaps?? ask in your hotel or school or ?? check http://www1.ymcajapan.org/content/progserv/health for info on fitnes programs and http://www1.ymcajapan.org/content/facilities/local for the address of the one in Kyoto. In case you aren't familiar with YMCA, you don't have to be young and a Christian to join them...In every town where there is one, it is the best place to check when you first arrive in town with the intention of looking for a job, a place to stay etc.

Thanks a bunch for the information!. Never heard of YMCA before, I am defiently going to check it out. Ok, I suspected that the tattoos might cause some problems, I guess i'll have to convince them that i'm not connected to the Yakuza ;-) . Again thanks a lot for taking your time to share this information with me.
