Kyoto to Tokyo to Kyoto

How much will it cost to take a train which is not too slow. Is it worth bying the Rail Pass. We are staying in Kyoto fr.16th to 22th of July. 22th we take teh train to Tokyo come back 28th. We could use the rail pass, but is it the cheapest way.
