Getting a new Visa but still have old 2009/7/9 08:49
I left Japan over a year ago with my Japanese wife to live in America. I still had two years left on my visa at the time, but I assumed I would not be living in Japan again within that time frame, so I left without a reentry permit. Now our situation has changed and we plan on living in Japan again. Will I have to wait to apply for a new visa until my old visa expires in May 2010, or has that visa already effectively been deactived and I can apply for a new one at anytime?

I believe you should be able to apply right away for a spouse visa, but you should call up your local embassy to get the most accurate information.

When you left Japan without a reentry permit you effectively ended your visa. Did they not stamp your passport with a cancelled stamp over your visa when you left?
