Currency exchange GBP >JPY 2009/7/9 18:34
I was wondering what the rate in Japan was for British pounds to Yen?

The rate here in UK is 1 pound : 145 Yen which is a bit low so it may be better to exchange while I'm in Japan.

Thanks.

Do not exchange in Japan, as the rate will be worse.
The only currecies that are good to exchange in Japan for Japanese Yen are USD & EURO.

e.g.
Actual USD Rate = 93.6yen/USD
Narita USD Rate = 90.1yen/USD (3.5% off)

Actual EUR Rate = 130.2yen/EUR
Narita EUR Rate = 126.2yen/EUR (3% off)

Actual GBP Rate = 151.5yen/GBP
Narita GBP Rate = 139.7yen/GBP (8.5% off)

And most other currencies are even worse (e.g. Australian $ is 15% off the actual rate!!!!)

And the banks' rates are usually even worse!!!

Exchange it in the Uk as the rate will be wayyyy better, try No1 currency - if they have a local outlet to you, they seem to have the best rates around. The pound has dipped in the last week tho, it was up to 156 (actual exchange value) but has dropped below 150 this week.
