Leaving Japan - to do list 2009/7/11 22:25
I am leaving Japan after 2 years. I am on a Spousal Visa and am wondering if I need to notify Government/local offices before leaving etc...?

So you are leaving Japan for good, and not coming back on the same Spouse visa?
Then,
- You should check with your city hall - if you are enroled in National Insurance Scheme, for example, you need to notify the insurance section (at the city hall) and return the insurance card. I am not aware of what kind of other procedures relating to tax and pension there are, but there might be something.
- In terms of Immigration, all you need to do is upon departure at the airport, return the Alien Registration Card and tell them you are leaving for good.

If you are coming back again on the Spouse visa, then that's another story :)
