Climbing Fuji - notification required?

Hello, on the 5th of August I am planning to climb MT Fuji. I have read that it can get crowded to the point of having to queue and as such I am choosing to climb over the night to get to the top by sunset.
I am wandering due to climbing at night and the overcrowding - is any notifcation required before climbing the mountain? Or can you just catch a bus to the a 5th station and walk up as you please?

No notification is required. But some buses require advance reservations, namely the direct Shinjuku to 5th Station bus.

I am just wanting to be thorough. My guests would be short of amused if we travelled across the country to not climb the mountain!
