Dec - Jan Good time to travel

Hi, I am thinking of travelling to Tokyo between end dec till early Jan.I wonder is that a good time as i was told by some friends that early jan, will have good sales but some other friends say nothing much and most of the shops will be closed. Does anyone knows?

Shops do not close in January! Only over the New Year holidays, especially January 1, many shops are closed.

Yeah, what i meant was more to shopping. Ha, do you mean only 1st Jan, most of the shops are closed and on 2nd onwards the shops will be opened and would there by any sales?

Yes, that is the basic situation. However, some stores are open even on January 1, while others might be closed for a few more days beyond the 1st.

I don't know about sales.
