I'm going on a study abroad program to Japan starting this Sept.
My student visa is vaild for a year but my program is only 6 months.
I'm thinking of doing some traveling in Japan after the program ends for 2 weeks only.
Will there be a problem if I stay? or I need to change my visa type to a tourist visa.
(Re-entry to the county is not a possible option for me)

Your visa expires the date it states on your passport so yes you could travel after the 6 months.
It is a bit curious that your school has gone down the year visa path for only a 6 month course.
