Great food chains like Yoshinoya? 2009/8/15 08:12
...they're our favourite last time and I'm wondering if there are others worth looking for for great value, good food, and can be found everywhere?

gyudon 2009/8/15 09:19
Specifically gyudon chains?

I like Sukiya even better than Yoshinoya.

I also like family restaurant chains like Gusto and Cocos.

My faves 2009/8/15 11:22
My faves are:
1) As mentioned, Sukiya. I also prefer them to Yoshinoya.

2) I also like Matsuya (another beef bowl place)

3) Gyoza no osho: a popular sit-down restaurant specializing on dumplings, they also have decent ramen and other chinese-styled items. My favorite.

4) I also think Japan's KFC is much better than the one in America.

Thanks. We'll keep a lookout for them.
And no, not specifically gyudon, in fact we love the Yoshinoya collection which has the serve of roast salmon.

orijin! 2009/8/18 11:16
orijin bento is pretty good if you are just after some cheap katsudon or tonkatsu rith rice. make sure to try their tonkatsu bentou and get some japanese mustard to go with it, yum.

While I don't think they are "great", I think they are good for when I'm a budget chains:

Of course Yoshinoya's competitors are good. I do prefer Matsuya http://www.matsuyafoods.co.jp/

Also there's "Fuji Soba" chain of restaurants, http://fujisoba.co.jp/

One person said to me it's like the Mcdonalds of soba and udon, but I like it.

Saizeriya 2009/8/21 06:55
I highly recommend an Italian style restaurant Saizeriya. Everything is incredibly inexpensive there.

They have an English menu with pictures. When you are ready to order, you just need to push a button on the table.

I suggest Osyou 2009/8/27 11:58
I suggest you Osyou. This is a chain store which is famous for Gyouza.
There are two type, Kyoto Osyou and Osaka Osyou.
I donft know the difference between Kyoto Osyou and Osaka Osyou.
In these stores, there are Chinese noodles, fried rice, Chinese soup and so on.
There is not expensive.
So, this chain store is popular in Japan.
