Is there a bullet train from Kobe to Kyoto that involves no transfers? If not a bullet train, then what are other no-transfer choices? And from which station in Kobe would we depart? Thank you.

Yes, there are both direct shinkansen (bullet trains) and direct regular rapid trains between Kobe and Kyoto.
All trains use JR Kyoto Station. In Kobe, the shinkansen use Shin-Kobe Station, while the other trains use more centrally located Sannomiya and Kobe Stations.

Rapid and Special Rapid eastbound trains, except those destined to Osaka, run for Kyoto. A Rapid train stops at stations including Kobe, Motomachi and Sannomiya; it requires about 70 minutes from Sannomiya to Kyoto. A Special Rapid train does not stop at Motomachi; it requires about 55 minutes from Sannomiya to Kyoto. Local trains destined to Kyoto, except very early ones, seem to be each overtaken by a Rapid or Special Rapid train departing later.
