JR national or regional 2009/9/2 07:41
Hi,

I'm having a big dilemna. Don't know if i should purchase the JR national pass or kansai pass, or just buy tickets in Japan...
We'll be doing:
Day 1 and 2 : Osaka
Day 3 : Osaka - Himeji - Kobe - Osaka
Day 4 : Osaka - Kyoto
(Could use Kansai JR pass 2 days : 4000Y)
Day 5 to 8 : Kyoto
Day 9 : Kyoto - Nara
+ (Koyasan?)
Day 10 (Kyosan)?
(Could use Kansai JR pass 2 days 4000Y)
Day 11 : Kyoto to Tokyo
(14000Y)
Day 12 to 16 : Tokyo

Do you think this is a good estimate? in this case National JR is really not worth it (14 days 45000Y)

Thanks for your help, we're leaving in 6 days, and i'm really going crazy over this... we haven't booked hotels yet do you think we're going to have toruble finding not so expensive ones?

Thanks a lot!

The nationwide Japan Rail Pass will not pay off, but the JR West Kansai Pass and Kansai Thru Pass can be good offers especially for the days you visit Himeji and Koyasan. Not so much on those days where you just stay in a single city.
