Hi,
I was wondering if you can withdraw cash at the counter using eftpos at a shop, cashout that is.
I'm heading to Osaka at the end of the month and trying to avoid bank fees.
Thanks, Nugs

While I can't say for certain, I feel that the answer is most likely no. While eftpos (only Kiwis and Aussies call it that by the way) became widespread in other countries quite a while ago, it's been very slow to catch on in Japan, and I have never heard of being able to withdraw cash with a card payment.

Please check with your bank about any banking fee(s) for withdrawing outside your country, let them know you will be using your card overseas, and also be sure you have your PIN number. Non-Japanese cards can be used for cash withdrawal at the following locations: http://www.japan-guide.com/e/e2208.html
