Japanese pen or email friends?

I have been looking to find a female pen pal around my age (34)that would like to learn English and I in turn could learn Japanese. I heard that getting a pen pal or language exchange partner along with instruction is the way to go. I also have great interest in Japanese culture. Most of the people in the Japanese classifieds looking for pen pals would like for you to be living in Japan to meet them but I live in the US. Can anyone give me some suggestions about what I can do? Thanks.
