Restrictions on mailing food to Japan?

I am sending a gift box which will contain some food items to a friend in Japan. Are there any restricitons to what is or is not allowed. Can you send liquids?

I've successfully sent candies, cookies and chocolate to Japan, but I have no idea about liquids, so I'd also be interested in an answer to this question. :)
