Change from visitor to language student 2010/3/6 20:51
I'm holding Thailand passport and a Japan visitor visa. I'm now in Japan as a visitor.
I would like to study Japanese language. Can I apply for a student permit in Japan?

Thank you

You should be able to apply for change of status - you need to find a school (full-time course), get accepted, pay in the tuition, show proof that you have sufficient funds to cover your living expenses during your study, and get the school to apply for the "pre-college" visa status.

Schools have closing dates for certain terms of the year (probably now they might be open to students applying for enrollment in Sept. or so), so if you have a school that you are interested in, you should go and ask about when you can start studying, and what documents are needed.
