Name of dish: beef cooked on a leaf? 2010/3/27 05:18
When we were in Japan a few years ago we had this dish where raw beef was brought to the table on top of a leaf and cooked right there. My husband really liked it and we had it in several cities (Tokyo, Takayama, etc). The name of the dish was always written in Japanese kanji and only the explanation was in English, so we never found out what the name of the dish is. Can anyone help? Here's a picture I took of it.

I cannot see the link in your post, but from the description you gave, I assume it is 朴葉焼き (hooba yaki) - hooba is a name of the leafe of the particular tree.

Not only beef, but also vegetables, seafood, miso (bean paste) - a lot of variations.
