Vietnamese Subs 2010/3/29 07:57
Hello,

I will be in Japan for a month this May, and of course I'm very excited to eat Japanese food. However, I am just curious to know if it is possible to find 'Vietnamese Subs' in Japan? I get a craving for those from time to time, but I did not see any places last time I was in Japan - perhaps in Yokohama's Chinatown? My hopes are not very high, and it is no big deal if it is impossible, but if anyone has any input it would be appreciated.

Thank you

I have never heard of them, and I often go to Vietnamese restaurants. Is it a sandwich?

In some places they call they Thai subs. Wherever they come from, they're on a baguette and have shredded pickled carrots (lots of these), cucumber, onion, usually your choice of meat, jalapenos, hot sauce, cilantro, sometimes cheese, etc.

Google 2010/3/30 13:38
Did a quick search on Google for bánh mì and depending on where you are, there seems to be a really small handful of places in the Kanto area. I don't want to copy them here since I have no way of confirming whether they still exist or not and most of the sites were from 5 years ago.

Either way, it's possible to find but it's probably going to be a pain in the arse.

I am Vietnamese, so thanks you guys for taking interest in Vietnamese food. Actually, our most famous meals are "Phở" and "nem" (harumaki). Here's the list of Vietnamese restaurants in Tokyo, hope you enjoy!

bánh mì 2010/3/31 10:55
It is really hard to find decent bánh mì in Tokyo. I've been looking for bánh mì place in Tokyo for a few years but have found only a few.
I think Bánh Mì Sandwich in Takadanobaba is the only shop in Tokyo that specialized in bánh mì.

They also have bánh mì on their menus.

(bánh mì is only on weekend lunch menu)

Excellent, thanks guys! I will only be in Japan for a month so just knowing one place where I can go if I get a craving is good enough for me!
